New Jersey is Verona Park

Part of the Lenape Trail system, Essex County's charming Verona Park is an original Olmsted Brothers designed park. The architectural designs for the landscaping date to 1920 and center around a lake (previously a swamp). I spent many an evening in my teens at the park, circling the lake on paths lined with weeping willows and other native trees.

Earlier, in the spring, I returned to the park where I enjoyed the lushness of the trees and flowering plants along the paths.

The park is a haven for birdwatchers, with great blue herons, cormorants, and red winged blackbirds, among many others making their home along the lake.

In previous years, the park hosted many large arts and crafts fairs, filling the paths with photography, paintings, scuptures, pottery, jewelry, clothing, and food tents. Live music and other events also occurred at the park, and will likely return in the future.

While I truly enjoy seeing all the handmade items and meeting the folks who crafted them, my favorite thing to do at Verona Park is take a stroll.

I hope this short post inspires you to visit lovely Verona Park, situated between Lakeside Avenue/Pleasant Valley Way and Bloomfield Avenue in Verona.
